To view the service, click the following link: https://youtu.be/h596mFe-EUQ A private family funeral service for Mayvis Sickman, 96, of Granite Falls, will be held at Sunset Funeral Home in Echo, with interment at St. Luke’s Lutheran Cemetery in Posen Township to follow. Masks and social distancing requirements will be observed at all services. Mayvis Muriel (Johnson) Sickman was born on January 22, 1924, in Wabasso, to John and Martha (Lemke) Johnson. She grew up in Wabasso, graduating from Wabasso High School. After graduation, Mayvis helped in various homes around Wabasso, cooking, cleaning, and taking care of children. On September 29, 1946, Mayvis was united in marriage to Milton Sickman at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wabasso. The couple raised their children on a few different farms around the area, before settling north of Wood Lake in Posen Township. Mayvis enjoyed helping on the farm and taking care of her family. She sewed many clothes for her children, and she enjoyed gardening. After their children left home, Mayvis let her artistic talents shine. She enjoyed painting, drawing, and carving, as well as crocheting and knitting. In 1978, Mayvis and Milton built a home in Starbuck on Lake Minnewaska, where they lived for 20 years before moving back to Granite Falls. Mayvis had a stroke in 2018, at which time she entered the nursing home. Mayvis died on Friday, November 27, 2020, at the Avera Granite Falls Nursing Home. She is survived by her children Laurie Gabbert of Wood Lake, Diane (Alan) Mathias of Hinckley, Susan (Jim) Salfer of Wabasso, and Jan (Jim) Long of Alexandria; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Delores Johnson of Alexandria; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Milton, brothers Vern, Clair, and Calvin Johnson, sons-in-law Ron Gabbert and Gordon Iverson, and one grandchild.
