Dorothy Mary Dickey

A graveside service for Dorothy Dickey, 95, of Houston, Texas, will be Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Echo. Visitation will be 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. before the service at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo. Dorothy Mary Dickey was born May 10, 1926, in Hull, Iowa, to Hubert and Sophie (Kvistad) Dickey. Dorothy attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1947 with a degree in nursing. She worked as a registered nurse throughout her career. After retirement, Dorothy lived in Stillwater, where she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She later moved to Florida for several years, before settling in Texas in 2015 to be near family. In her free time, Dorothy enjoyed traveling and reading. Highlights of her travels included trips to Norway with her mother; Great Britain and Hawaii with her daughter Becky; and various road trips with her daughters when they were young. Dorothy loved history and she enjoyed visiting historical sites everywhere she went. She was a devout Christian and active in her local church. Dorothy peacefully passed on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at her residence in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her daughters Becky Dickey of Houston, Diane (Gary) Smith of Stillwater, and Julie (Robert) Fewell of Houston; grandchildren Emily and Sam Smith; as well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Hubert and Sophie Dickey and her brothers Donald, Wade, and Robert Dickey. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Samaritan’s Purse.
