Adolph “Buddy” Leonard, 88, of Benson, formerly of Belview, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at Scandi Haven Village in Benson, MN. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the Belview Cemetery in Belview, Minnesota. Adolph Herman Leonard, Jr (Buddy) was born on January 21, l932 in Belview, MN to Adolph H and Amanda (Loken) Leonard. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Church. Buddy attended and graduated from Belview High School in 1950. He attended college at South Dakota State from 1950 to 1952. He was drafted into the US Army-Artillery on Sept 1952, serving during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged in September of 1954 with the rank of Sgt and as a disabled veteran. In 1957 he married Donna Ludwig of Milroy, MN. Four sons were born to their family, Brian, Gregory, Bradley and Randy. They were married for 26 years until she died of leukemia in 1983. Buddy remarried in 1987 to Delores (Donner) Bernardy and two stepsons were added to the family Bruce and Brad. Buddy and Delores were married for 32 years before she passed away in July of 2020. Buddy owned and edited the Belview Independent newspaper for 5 years, spent 18 years with Marigold Foods as a Route, Sales and Distributor Supervisor- 2 years of those in Redwood Falls and 16 years in Pipestone. He then was employed at Pipestone Implement until 1986 when he was hired by the Minnesota Department of Transportation highway maintenance and was stationed in Granite Falls, MN until his retirement in 1997. Buddy belonged to the August Donner Legion Post #309 and served as Legion Commander. He also served on the Grace Lutheran Church Council. He enjoyed family, camping, traveling, fishing, flea marketing, garage sales and playing cards. Buddy passed away on Tuesday Nov 24, 2020 at the age of 88 at Scandi Haven Village in Benson, MN. He is survived by sons Brian Leonard of Spring Lake Park, MN, Greg Leonard of Cottage Grove, MN, Brad and Char Leonard of Wood Lake, MN and Randy Leonard of Rocky Ford, CO. stepsons, Bruce and Sandy Bernardy of Benson, MN and Brad and Lynette Bernardy of Spencer, IA. 5 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and 18 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Donna, wife Delores, sister,Shirley Holt, brother- in-law Charlie Holt, daughter in law Windy Leonard, nephews Lenny and Lee Holt.
