Dennis R. Blomeke - Belview

Dennis Blomeke, 75, of Belview, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Parkview Home in Belview. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 14, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 pm on Thursday at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be held at a later date. Dennis Richard Blomeke Born Nov. 5, 1938 to Armin and Ella (Kopischke) Blomeke in rural Morgan. He moved to their family farm in 1946, and graduated from Belview High School in 1956. He was a proud member of the legendary District 10 Championship basketball team of ‘56. On August 13, 1960, he married the love of his life, Janice Anderson of Hanska . He farmed one year prior to being drafted into the U.S. Army. Stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, Dennis made lifelong friends while serving in the Honest John Rocket Unit from 1961 to 1963. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Belview, where he farmed and raised livestock until 1983, when he began a second career as a livestock nutritionist. He thoroughly enjoyed working with other farmers until he retired in 2010. Dennis and Jan expanded their family when they welcomed Jon Eric in ’65 and Lisa Anne in ’67. Dennis instilled his competitive spirit in them and was an enthusiastic fan at all their games and activities. He and Jon (’83) are the only father-son duo to have both played basketball on District 10 championship teams. At one point, Dennis, Jon and Lisa all held track records in various events, so their names were all listed on the track record board posted at school. Dennis continued his service to others as an active member of the School Board, Church Council, Blandin Foundation and Belview’s Booster Club. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, talking politics, reading, listening to classical music, making soup and tending to his lawn and flowers. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Janice; and children Jon Blomeke (Ray Ortega) of Minneapolis, Lisa Unruh (Matt Hayes), granddaughters Haylee and Lauren Unruh, and David Unruh of Lakeville. Siblings Sharon Biastock, and Gordon Blomeke (Marsha Zimmerman). In-laws Mel and Ileen Anderson; nephews and nieces Larry and Deb Anderson, Laurie and Bill MacLean, Jayne Anderson, David and Lori Biastock and Mary (Biastock) Thomson. He passed away on March 10, 2014. He was surrounded by family and the wonderful caregivers of the Parkview Home. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
