Doris Lorraine Penske

Doris Lorraine Penske, age 83, of Vesta, Minnesota passed away on August 3, 2012 In Winstead, Minnesota, McCleod County. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM and visitation continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Vesta Cemetery. Online condolences may be placed for the family at www.sunsetfuneralassociation.com. Doris Lorraine Penske was born December 11, 1928 to George and Blondina (Jordan) Henriksen on the family farm, four miles south of Vesta, MN. She was baptized on December 23, 1928 and later confirmed in May of 1942 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta. She attended country school in Vesta Township. On February 16, 1949 Doris married Allen Penske at St. Johns’s Lutheran Church in Vesta and they made their home on his parent’s farm two miles northwest of Vesta. Doris worked on the farm with her husband and raised her family. They continued to live on the farm after they retired from farming in 1986. That same year Doris went to work as a housekeeper, at the Traveler’s Lodge Motel in Marshall, MN. She retired from her job there when she was 80 years old. After her husband’s death in 2010 she remained on the farm. Doris was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta, where she was active in Ladies Aid, Alter Guild and as a Sunday School Teacher in years past. She enjoyed reading, especially mystery novels, needlepoint, watching the cooking channel and Jeopardy on television, and both flower and vegetable gardening. In May of 2012, Doris moved to Winsted, MN with her daughter. On Friday, August 3, 2012 Doris died at her daughter’s home at the age of 83. Doris is survived by her one daughter, Janice (Glenn) Kuck of Winsted, MN; two sons, Gary (Margaret) Penske and Duane Penske, both of Vesta, MN; daughter-in-law, Patrice Penske of Park Rapids, MN; three grandchildren, Miranda Phillipi, Brittany Kuck and Jordan Kuck; two great grandchildren; one brother, Melvin (Louise) Henriksen of Vesta, MN; three sisters, Vera Sylte of Ivanhoe, MN, Gladys (Alton) Beadell of Vesta, MN and Pearl (Lloyd) Ville of Satellite Beach, FL; nieces, nephews and friends. Her husband, Allen, son, Arlen, grandson, Jeffrey Penske preceded her in death.
