Lydia Bode, age 95, of Wood Lake, Minnesota passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the Parkview Nursing Home in Belview. Service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, August 4, 2012 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Posen Township. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM on Friday, August 3, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Lydia Adele Bode was born August 29, 1916 to Rev. William and Emilie (Roehl) Hennig in Moosejaw, Sask. Canada. She was baptized on September 18, 1916 and confirmed in Canby, MN. As an infant she moved with her family to Grahamdale, Manitoba, where she began school. In 1924 her family moved to rural Lynd, MN and shortly thereafter, to Canby, MN where she attended school, graduating from Canby High School in 1934. Lydia then enrolled in Teacher Training Courses for a year, then taught country school for four years. In 1939 Lydia married Edgar W. Bode and they made their home on a farm in Posen Township, south of Wood Lake, MN for their entire married life. A housewife and mother of seven children, Lydia led an active life at home, in her church and the community. She was a member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and active as a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir, and as a substitute organist. She was also a charter member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and helped organize its circuit and region. She served as vice-president in 1960 and in 1964 as president. After passing this post on she was the organization’s Archivist-Historian for ten years. In her community, Lydia served as a substitute teacher in the parochial school, served as a leader for the local PTA, and was a member of the Music Mother’s Club and Homemaker’s Club. Lydia enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, listening to and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and especially loved flower gardening, and making beautiful arrangements. In April of 2011 Lydia became a resident of the Parkview Nursing Home in Belview, MN. After the July 2011 storm Lydia was a temporary resident at the Olivia Nursing Home before returning to Parkview Nursing Home, where she died Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the age of 95. Lydia is survived by her five sons, Rev. Edgar (Helynn) Bode of Rapid City, SD, John Bode of Belview, MN, Paul (Diana) Bode of Hudson, WI, Daniel (Julie) Bode of Omaha, NE and James (MaryLynn Pulscher) Bode of Minneapolis, MN; two daughters, Judith (Rev. Lee) Eilert of St. Clairsville, OH and Kristen (Mikel) Brantley of Shiloh, IL; fourteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Colberg of Milbank, SD and Hildegarde Kottke of St. Paul, MN; sisters-in-law, Irene Hennig of Sun City, AZ, Lois and Hamlin Milbradt of Apache Junction, AZ, brother-in-law August Bode of Fairfield Bay, AR; nieces, nephews and friends. Her husband, Edgar, her parents, one infant sister, three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
