Louis A. Rechtzigel, age 75, of Slayton, formerly of Belview, MN, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Hospice House of Murray County in Slayton, MN. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo, MN and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Louis Arthur Rechtzigel was born on December 2, 1936 to Louis and Florence (Sachs) Rechtzigel in St. Paul, MN, Ramsey County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Rosemont high school and attended Dunwoody Institute in St. Paul. He also enlisted and was honorably discharged from the Air National Guard Reserves. On October 12, 1957 Louis was united in marriage to Carol Turner in St. Paul, MN. They made their home in the St. Paul area and in 1956, they built a new house in Wescott, MN. Over the years, Louis worked as a plumber, welder, and farmer working for Great Northern Oil from 1954 to 1966. In 1966, they moved to rural Vesta, MN and in 1997 they moved out to Lake Shetek. Louis was a member of Grace Lutheran in Belview, MN where he was active on the church council and was a Sunday school teacher. He also was a constable for Sheridan Township for a number of years. After moving to Lake Shetek, Louis became an active member of the Lake Sarah Lutheran Church Council in Garvin, MN and later joined Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN. Louis enjoyed fishing, playing cards and building things in his shop. On Saturday, May 26, 2012 Louis passed away at the Hospice House of Murray County surrounded by his family at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife, Carol; three children, Ken (Barbara) Rechtzigel of Belview, Todd Rechtzigel of Slayton and Kari (Eric) Mathiowetz of Garvin; five grand children; three great grand children; one brother, Elroy Rechtzigel of Inver Grove Heights and one sister, Auverne (Robert) Raatz of Tulsa, OK; seven nieces, and many cousins and friends. His parents, one grandson, one brother-in-law, and two sisters-in -law preceded him in death. Blessed be his memory.
