Vivian Lois Slettedahl was born on March 1, 1925 to Edwin and Ethel (Noren) Johnson in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud. At the age of 10 years old, she moved with her family to the Echo area. She was confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Echo and graduated from the Echo School district. On February 23, 1947, Vivian married Jonard Slettedahl at the American Lutheran Church parsonage in Echo. Vivian worked at the Echo bank until moving to Hanley Falls. She then worked at the Wood Lake bank for several years until moving back to Echo where they purchased and operated the family farm and raised their family. When her children were grown, she worked for the Echo Elevator and then Sunset Funeral Home as a bookkeeper until her retirement. Vivian was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Echo and was very involved in building the church in the 1970’s. Upon it’s closing, Vivian became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. She was active in the Ladies Aid at American, Homemakers, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She also helped to start and deliver the Meals for the Meals on Wheels program for the seniors of the community and volunteered her time at the Hope Market in Echo. Vivian enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, gardening and canning, fishing, embroidery, old time dances, music and singing with her sisters. She also took great pride in her penmanship and was a meticulous bookkeeper. Vivian’s greatest joy was her family and her little sugarpies who brought a smile to her face and twinkle to her eyes.
