Vernon George Timm, age 91, of Wood Lake, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Riverside Assisted Living Center in Granite Falls. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Burial will be at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Vernon George Timm was born on April 20, 1920 to Julius and Augusta (Todd) Timm in Wood Lake, Minnesota, Yellow Medicine County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Wood Lake Public Schools graduating in 1943. Vernon joined the United States Army and was a member of the 101st Airborne Division in Germany during WWII. After his honorable discharge, Vernon returned to the Wood Lake Area. In 1947, Vernon married Belva Wilkening, and remained living in the Wood Lake area. Vernon worked for many years as a tractor mechanic for the Wood Lake Implement, and he and Belva owned and operated the Wood Lake Cafe for a few years. They were members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake where Vernon served as a church trustee for many years. He was also a member of the Wood Lake American Legion, Fire Department and Commercial Club. Vernon enjoyed camping, traveling, tinkering with various things in his garage, loved to visit with people and spend time with his family and grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his dry humor and wit. Vernon passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Riverside Assisted Living Center in Granite Falls at the age of 91. He is survived by his two sons, Terry (Becky) Timm of Cottonwood and Brad (Sus) Timm of Wood Lake; one daughter, Pam (James) Crenna of Maple Grove; four sisters, Verona Sachariason of Granite Falls, Alice Kvistad of Granite Falls, Dorothy Timm-Meili of Willmar and Harriet Mueller of Rochester; six grandchildren, Shelly Nikolou, , Chad Timm, Chris Timm, Randi Zimmerman, Derek Timm and Austin Timm; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His wife Belva, son Jeffrey, and brother Harlan preceded him in death. Blessed be the memory of Vernon.
